Series FactsWhat is the Ford Racing Mustang Challenge?The Ford Racing Mustang Challenge is a new professional racing series co-developed by Ford Racing and Miller Motorsports Park. Utilizing the new Ford Mustang FR500S and sanctioned by the Grand American Road Racing Association, the series is a support series to major professional road racing events across North America. A competitive point structure and generous purses will make the Ford Racing Mustang Challenge the perfect affordable, challenging platform for racers who want to compete in a V8-powered, rear-wheel-drive car on a level playing field that will showcase driver ability in high-profile events. What is the Ford Mustang FR500S?The FR500S is the newest addition to the Mustang FR500 racing family and was co-developed by Ford Racing Technology and Miller Motorsports Park. Featuring a 4.6L 3-valve production engine and a variety of Ford Racing performance parts, such as a cold-air kit, high-capacity radiator and two-way adjustable dampers and springs, plus BFGoodrich g-Force R1 tires, the FR500S is the first race car built by Ford Motor Company on a production line intended for sale to the public. What is the MSRP for a Ford Mustang FR500S?The FR500S is priced at $59,900 (US) and is delivered race-ready down to the timing transponder. Where can I purchase a Ford Mustang FR500S?The FR500S can be ordered by contacting Miller Motorsports Park (435-277-8787) or through your Ford dealer. Order forms are available here. How many Ford Mustang FR500S’ were built?The initial build was limited to 77 units. Who will own the series?Miller Motorsports Park will own and operate the series, which will be sanctioned by the Grand American Road Racing Association. Will there be coverage on the web?We have partnered with Compass360 to bring race results and some video coverage to this website. In addition we will provide a behind the scenes look with the webisode Inside Track of the Mustang Challenge hosted by Jamie Slone. What will the race format be?The Ford Racing Mustang Challenge will feature 45-minute “sprint” races. Each race weekend will include two 30-minute practice sessions, a 25-minute qualifying session and a 45-minute race. What minimum driver qualifications do drivers need to possess to participate in this series?Drivers in the series will need to have a Grand-Am license. What is the point structure for the series?Championship points will be distributed through 30th place, with 50 points to win and additional points for the top five qualifiers (five for pole, four for second, etc.). One point will be awarded to any driver who leads a lap, and one point will be awarded to the driver who leads the most laps. Where else can I compete with my FR500S?In addition to the Ford Racing Mustang Challenge, the Ford Mustang FR500S is also eligible to compete in the Sports Car Club of America (B-Prepared National class, ITE Regional class), the National Auto Sport Association (American Iron class, Super Touring class, Super Unlimited class) and in the Miller Park Racing Association (MPRA) at Miller Motorsports Park.
