Caddell Takes Third in Qualifying at Daytona International

January 29, 2010

DAYTONA BEACH, FL—29 January 2010-Showing he’s fast no matter what he drives—although especially so if it is a Ford Mustang—Andrew Caddell qualified third on the 81-car GRAND-AM Continental Tire Sports Car Challenge grid at Daytona International Speedway on Thursday with a fast lap time of 2:00,068-seconds around the 3.56-mile oval-based circuit.

Caddell will start Friday’s Fresh From Florida 200 on the inside of row 2 as the two-time Ford Racing Mustang Challenge Champion returns to the high banks to make his third career start in the category. Caddell, who won the ride at Daytona as part of his championship prize package for his Mustang Challenge title, will sport the iRacing.com logos on the No. 59 Rehagan Racing Ford Mustang FR500C that he will share the co-driving with fellow Ford Racing champion Kenny Wilden, who won the GRAND-AM series title in 2009.

“We had the pole going into Turn 1. I had a good time, a (one minute) 59.5 (second-lap), at the start/finish line. Then one of the Camaros out there just parked it in (Turn) 1, so I had to go around the outside, then he came over and tracked me right up the track, and that just blew the lap for me,” said Caddell. “ I’m happy with third place, but after what we went through trying to get the car handling right, it would have been good to get the pole for the guys.  But where we’re starting, I think we can hang with them. The BMWs are up top again and everyone knows they’re going to be there, so it should be interesting. We’ll see how it goes.”
Friday’s 2.5 hour season-opener will take the green flag at 1:45 PM, and will be carried on a tape-delay basis on Speed Channel.

The 2010 Ford Racing Mustang Challenge season will kick off at Homestead-Miami Speedway in March, and will feature a new wrinkle in the championship. Mustang Challenge officials have confirmed the final 2010 Ford Racing Mustang Challenge schedule, which will see the series feature three double-header race weekends and grow to an 11-race calendar.
