Ford Racing Mustang Challenge FR500S Raises $275,000 for St. JudesJanuary 22, 2010 Scottsdale, AZ—23 January 2010— There was hardly a dry eye in the house as the Ford Racing Mustang Challenge FR500S went across the stage and was sold for an astounding $275,000 at the Scottsdale Barrett-Jackson auction. One might suspect that the price was the source of all the eye-watering, but that was not the case as the reason for the emotion was clear as scores of young children, along with their families and a rousing contingent of Mustang Challenge racers and staff, were up on stage with the SPX-donated FR500S as the entire amount will be donated to St. Jude. VP of Consignment for Barrett-Jackson, Gary Bennett, who was the final driver of the No. 00 machine in Mustang Challenge race action, kept the bidding going by including a driving school donated by the Ford Racing High Performance Driving School at Miller Motorsports Park and the Ford Racing Mustang Challenge. Bennett was so moved by the auction that he also offered his ponytail for Locks of Love after the bidding crossed the $250,000 threshold. St. Jude brings help and hope to children fighting cancer. The machine was signed by every driver, crew member, and series-affiliated participant after the year-end banquet at Miller Motorsports Park this September. SPX Corporation is a Fortune 500, global company with products and services that span multiple industries–food/beverage, transportation, automotive, power generation, gas and oil production, manufacturing, pharmaceutical/biotechnology, agriculture and many more. “We had high hopes for this event, and the energy on stage from the children from St Jude, SPX and Barrett Jackson executives made this an amazing night at the auction!” said Mustang Challenge Series Director Lynda Randall, who also oversaw the series’ year-long charity partnership with the Austin Hatcher Foundation. “Being up on stage with the kids from St. Jude and having so many of our drivers and staff on hand made this a really special moment to be a part of. I want to thank SPX, Barrett-Jackson, Miller Motorsports Park, and Ford Racing for making this possible.” The FR500S was the first of two Mustangs with with a Miller Motorsports Park connection on sale, as the custom Hurst Performance Ford Mustang, which served as the pace car for the Miller season-finale, scored $120,000 when it was sold in Saturday’s auction action. The car has proven to be the darling of the show, as evidenced by the strong merchandise and poster presence of the No. 00: Check them out below! |
