KONI racer takes 7th in Mustang Challenge Debut

Birmingham, AL—(18 April 2009)  Grand-Am KONI Sports Car Challenge racer Jack Roush Jr. scored 7th in his Ford Racing Mustang Challenge debut driving the ROUSH Performance-liveried No. 00 “Media Car” in round 3 of the 2009 Mustang Challenge championship at Barber Motorsports Park on Saturday.

Roush, who scored a podium in the 2008 KONI Challenge event at the Birmingham-area track, got his first laps in the Mustang Challenge FR500S in practice on Friday before hitting the accelerator for qualifying Saturday morning. After starting the race from 11th on the grid, Roush got comfortable with the BFGoodrich Tires as he moved up to take 7th at the finish of the 45-minute race, which ran under green-flag conditions for the full race distance.
“I just want to thank Ford Racing for inviting me here for the race and I had a blast out there today, this is a really fun series,” said Roush Jr., who carried partners ROUSH Performance, Valvoline, and MossMuscle.com on his No. 00 entry.  “Capaldi Racing did a great job preparing the car for me. The spring and tire package was the biggest thing for me to adjust to, but the car kept getting better as the race went on, and I had a lot of fun today.”

Roush, who was the first-ever recipient of a “Media Car Cup” from Mustang Challenge for his spirited participation in the race weekend, will now look forward to returning to the seat of another Mustang in two weeks time as he straps back into the No. 61 Horsepower Ranch Ford Mustang FR500S at New Jersey Motorsports Park for round 3 of the 2009 KONI Challenge championship.
