Ted Anthony Jr. Takes Ford Racing Mustang Challenge Pole at Homestead for Race #2March 15, 2009 Homestead, FL—(15 March 2009) With a successful round one of racing in the rear view mirror, the Ford Racing Mustang Challenge racers geared up for round two of the 2009 Mustang Challenge championship with a 15-minute morning qualifying session to set the grid for Sunday’s round two of the Grand-Am Fan Appreciation race weekend at Homestead Miami Speedway. The session was another competitive one, as six different drivers were atop the charts, but it was Ted Anthony, Jr., who emerged to grab five championship points with his fast lap of 1:37.535 seconds to take his first Mustang Challenge pole. “We were hoping for a better finish yesterday but we had a small motor problem so we weren’t getting all the power that these Mustangs make,” said Anthony, who took a Mustang Starting alongside will be Caddell, who took his second P2 qualifying result of the weekend as he looks to make it two for two at Homestead to score another race win. “Our Raybestos car isn’t the best on just one lap speed, but as we saw yesterday, the Kauffmann racing guys have really have a good consistent set up for the car so hopefully that will give us a good shot in the race this afternoon.” Jim Click Racing’s Mike McGovern will look to revisit the podium on Sunday after taking third on the grid. Joining the fray for Sunday’s round two is renowned road racer Andy Lally, who got his first taste of the Ford Mustang FR500S machine on Sunday morning to qualify fourth on the grid with a 1:38.022 in the Ford Racing Mustang Challenge “Media Car.” “This Mustang has the typical muscle car feel that you would expect and it’s a lot of fun to drive,” said Lally. “The BFGoodrich Tires stick really well. This is obviously a really fun class, and it’s cool that the grid is this close. I’m looking forward to seeing how it all plays out, I think it’s going to be a really exciting race.” |
